I have two different Omega masticating juicers. One is the horizontal style Omega J8006 and the other is their vertical Omega VRT350HD (both pictured above). These are two of the coolest juicers that I own. Even though they have many similarities, they each can do things that the other can’t. So if you want to learn about the kinds of things that you can make with masticating juicers, you have come to the right place!
First of all I’m going to explain what these juicers are all about, how they work, and why they’re better than centrifugal juicers. You’ll be able to find reviews for specific models that I’ve used as well. And as I’ve already suggested, I’m going to talk about both juicing and non-juicing uses for these machines – this is really why I love them so much – I can make juices, nut milks, salsas, nut butters, frozen desserts and more! Masticating juicers can open up a whole new world of health for you.
The whole reason I got into using masticating juicers was that I heard that they were able to make more nutritious drinks than the faster centrifugal juicers. At first I thought this was just a marketing gimmick but after I’d done a bit more research I started to think that the slower speed may actually have an impact upon the type of drink that I could make. What I know for sure is that I like the taste of the juice that I get from masticating juicers more than centrifugal ones. Is it really more nutritious? I’m not a scientist so I don’t know for sure. But like I said, I prefer the taste – that’s enough for me. If you take a look at this science lesson plan, you may conclude that since centrifugal juicers rotate faster, they will force more air into the juice that they make – which could result in a speeding up of the process of oxidation. This is what I believe.
Another thing I’ve found is that masticating juicers make a pulpier juice. I quite like this most of the time, but then sometimes I do want to drink a smoother juice. I’ll either use a centrifugal juicer or just pour the juice (made with one of my masticating juicers) through a seive.
I’ve found a few other websites that offer masticating juicer reviews and give their opinion on the best juicer to use. There’s also a lot of junk sites out there – examples being sites that display incorrect pictures of machines they’re supposedly reviewing. So take care and make sure that you listen to those of us who know what we’re talking about. I also recommend Youtube as a great place to research juicers. Just type in the style, brand or model that you want to research and you be able to find out more.
While I’m just one guy with a few juicers, you might also want to check out the Omega Juicers Official Homepage. Another good place to gather more information is by reading customer reviews on Amazon.
