<p>Horizontal masticating juicers are an older design than the newer vertical style e.g. the <a href="http://www.cooksway.com/omega-vrt350hd-review/">Omega VRT350HD</a>. But it&#8217;s not simply the case that they&#8217;ve been replaced with a newer and better type of juicer. Horizontal and vertical masticating juicers are different. In my <a href="http://www.cooksway.com/lhrr/">comparison of masticating juicers</a> article, I talk about the ways that the Omega J8006 and VRT350HD can be used. Each machine has different strong points so it comes down to what you require. Some people, like me, use them both!</p>
<h2>Omega J8006 Parts</h2>
<p>The pictures below show the main parts of this juicer and how they fit together. Masticating juicers seemed complicated to me before I owned one. But they are really quite simple to use.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-95" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-1-300x225.jpg" alt="The main parts of the Omega J8006 juicer" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>This picture shows the 5 parts required when juicing: drum, auger, juicing screen, end cap and hopper.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-96" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-2-300x225.jpg" alt="main drum" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>The drum.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-97" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-3-300x225.jpg" alt="drum and auger" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>The first part that goes in is the auger.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-4.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-98" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-4-300x225.jpg" alt="auger fitted inside drum" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>The auger is now fitted.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-5.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-99" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-5-300x225.jpg" alt="juicing screen" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Next comes the juicing screen. Notice the primary juicing screen (metal section on the left) and then the fine juicing screen (metal section to the right).</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-6.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-100" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-6-300x225.jpg" alt="juicing screen fitted and end cap" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>Once the juicing screen has been fitted, everything is held in place by the end cap.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-7.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-101" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-7-300x225.jpg" alt="end cap fitted and hopper" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>After putting the end cap on, the hopper is the last section to connect.</p>
<p><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-8.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-102" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/04/Omega-J8006-picture-8-300x225.jpg" alt="hopper added - setup complete" width="300" height="225" /></a></p>
<p>After connecting the hopper, you&#8217;re ready to start juicing.</p>
<p>These pictures were just to show the 5 parts involved. When I&#8217;m setting up my juicer, I start off by attaching the drum to the juicer body. Then I add the parts in the exact same order as the pictures above.</p>

<p align="center"><a href="http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00434JINO/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&amp;tag=cooksway-20&amp;linkCode=as2&amp;camp=217145&amp;creative=399369&amp;creativeASIN=B00434JINO" rel="nofollow"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-74" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/vertical-juicer-214x300.jpg" alt="picture of the Omega VRT350HD juicer" width="214" height="300" border="0" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">What I love about my vertical masticating juicer is that it makes great quality juice just like my Omega J8006 but because it has a larger auger (see pictures below) it is able to process more fruit and vegetables in a shorter space of time = so it makes juices more quickly. It kind of looks a little bit like a centrifugal juicer and in some ways, the fact that it can make juices quickly, it is kind of similar. But it has to be said that the quality of juice that comes out of a masticating juicer just tastes better. This is something you may be able to test for yourself if you ever visit a juicer trade fair.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I have written a <a href="http://www.cooksway.com/lhrr/">comparison of the Omega VRT350HD and Omega J8006</a> with regards to the sorts of things that they can make. The design of the machines are very different, but more than this, they are in fact good at making different things. That&#8217;s why I decided to buy the both! It&#8217;s hard for me to pick the <a href="http://www.cooksway.com/best-juicer/">best juicer</a> of the two as it really depends what I want to make.</p>
<h2 style="text-align: justify;">Omega VRT350HD Parts</h2>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Fully assembled, the Omega VRT350HD looks like the picture above. The section that actually does the juicing is made up of a few separate components. I&#8217;ve taken some pictures of some of the parts of my vertical masticating juicer. It&#8217;s really quite straight forward to assemble.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-1.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-40" title="parts 1" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-1-300x213.jpg" alt="separate parts from vertical masticating style juicer" width="300" height="213" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The auger &#8211; the black part on the left &#8211; is the piece that is responsible for the juicing action. It is made of GE Ultem plastic The juicing screen &#8211; the part in the middle &#8211; is made of metal and GE Ultem plastic (this is a kind of <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polyetherimide">Polyetherimide</a> &#8211; PEI). The white section and the two rubber wipers keep the juicing screen clean <em>while the juicer is operating</em>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-2.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-41" title="parts 2" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-2-300x199.jpg" alt="juicer parts - wipers added to plastic holder" width="300" height="199" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The rubber wipers fit in and come out easily. It&#8217;s real easy to clean them up.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-3.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-42" title="parts 3" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-3-300x194.jpg" alt="juicing screen inside plastic cleaning section" width="300" height="194" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">The juicing screen fits snugly inside the wiper holder piece.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-4.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-43" title="parts 4" src="http://www.cooksway.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/09/parts-4-300x183.jpg" alt="juicer parts all pieces fitted together" width="300" height="183" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">As you can see, the auger sits inside the juicing screen. The auger rotates clockwise and if you look at the pictures above, you might notice the large capacity of the auger. When I drop stuff into the juicer the top section (of the auger) chops of a big piece which is then ground in to pulp which then releases the juice.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">I only have two <a href="http://www.cooksway.com/">masticating juicer reviews</a> on this site. As far as I am concerned, my vertical and horizontal juicers are the top of the range. There are other brands which work in the same way so pick a model that suits your budget and style. If you&#8217;re into health, you won&#8217;t be disappointed!</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Here is an <a href="http://www.applelaneinn.com/omega-vrt350hd/">Omega VRT350HD review</a> by another happy owner.</p>
